Seasons of Change:
A Year of Living in Napa Valley

This series is inspired by my first year in Napa, a year of experiencing the colors of the changing seasons. It is a love letter to the natural beauty of my new home.

This collection aims to capture the dynamic energy of Napa’s four seasons. Napa is full of beauty, and being outdoors every day helps me appreciate and notice the changes. The compositions translate my visual memories through dynamic layered textures and organic forms. Through these abstractions, movement and color evoke the feeling of a place. The paintings help viewers slow down and connect with the natural world. I strive to convey the warmth of the valley sun, the serenity of walking through the vineyards, and the awe of pausing under majestic oaks. My artwork celebrates the natural splendor of Northern California and the optimism of fresh beginnings.

In the "Seasons of Change" collection, I harnessed the fluid and dynamic nature of alcohol inks to capture the ephemeral essence of weather and seasons. By layering these vibrant, fade-resistant inks on specialty paper, I created paintings where the colors dance and flow, mimicking the ever-changing patterns of nature with spontaneity and freedom. Each piece is an original work, reflecting the unique energy of each season through the layered hues that blend and shift gracefully. The result is a series of artworks that embody the movement and transformation inherent in the natural world, as the inks move elegantly like the shifting weather and the passage of time.

I moved to Napa last spring. Since then, I have witnessed the dramatic change of seasons. Growing up in San Francisco—and then spending the last 20 years in Los Angeles—having a change of seasons is new. The vineyards have their unique colors. They transform from the barren, wooden rows of winter to the lush, green trellises of spring. Then, come autumn, the hills turn to golden yellows and ochres. I paint the memories of these moments. Spending every day walking my dog, I see the changes. Napa Valley is a place that changes and flows. This whole collection embraces the fluid medium of Alcohol Inks to capture that flow.
